It sounds so generic and after the fact at this point but Happy New Year everyone! And I'm sorry! Not just for you. For me. I miss this blog!
I was doing great with my writing. Then it came to a screeching halt. It was as if someone hit the emergency break.
What happened? The main thing is that I was on tour, playing for an average of 12,000 people a night, sometimes twice a day, in a show that lasts 2 1/2 hours. Those of you who are familiar with TSO know what an intense show it is. It's also something you won't see written about here. Part of the magic of that show is that it's a holiday show and revealing too much about it would undo the magic.
But I will tell you that the days were long and busy and while I managed to crank out a few written pieces along the way, towards the end the spare time slipped away like a dropped guitar pick. And the spare energy faded.
Once I returned last week, I was pulled under by the wave of life outside the written word. This included reconnecting with people I haven't seen in months. Also bags had to be unpacked (they've just been packed again), guitars had to be strung, batteries changed, flights confirmed, interviews granted etc...add this to the constant influx of e-mails and calls that come in.
I think it's safe to say I'm back but I'm no longer going to promise a date for any of my pieces. And what I hope to do is create enough pieces before a tour that I can post regularly, even when there's no free time. I don't want to just post any old thing for the sake of posting regularly. I also get a bit obsessed and perfectionist like with writing (much like I am with music.)
The good news is I have been keeping an almost daily journal of thoughts and ideas for essays. There are a lot of raw, unpolished stories waiting to be fine tuned and posted here. When those show up here, I think you're going to like them.
Wishing everyone a happy '09. Thanks so much for sticking with me!!

Happy New Year to you, Alex! I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be on the TSO tour...going to one show is staggering. Unlike you, we get to go home and recover. :)
Looking forward to future blogs!
I Alex, glad to see you back and i just start to thincking that you forgot your blog but anyway, I knew that you were very busy and when you have the time, you´ll appear.
Alex let me request one thing and I thinck I speack for all the fãns that visit your blog regulary as I do, please...you dont need to post diarly and have the stress about it but just don´t forgett us becouse probably this is the way that many incluing me had the oportunaty to speack directly with you and we love you so much that when you post something or when you answer a question that is just enough to simply make my day...as stupid as it seems.
We know that you´r a very busy man and dont have time and when you have it, sometimes you need it for yourself and to be alone with your ideas just resting, it´s understandable...but i´m shure that with so many funny moments that fullfild your live, in a question of minutes it will be easy to put up a very funny story like that one of the " devil´s thong" or "" concierge " and your first show in Europe.
After remember that post that you do remembering the guys from ACRASSICAUDA and when you invited them after the show in Istambul to meet them I thought...
Do you thinck that if is it possible that when TESTAMENT come to play in Portugal in 17 March that if I can reach the front of stage and scream loud who I´m,you can give a few minutes of your time to give an autograph and take a photo with you....oh my god, this is so child in a men with 33 years old but i would be so HAPPY...but if you can´t I understand to, I know it´s not just like that.
Anyway....stay cool and continue making what you know best....paly that beautifull guitar.
Sometimes our body stop, but the mind no. So "pratice" !
Hello to everyone.
Welcome back to one of the greatest blogs.
May 2009 be a good year to all of you.
Hope to see you, Alex.(maybe in March?)
Happy New Year Alex! Do you ever rest? You are like the energizer bunny! Just reading your schedule makes me tired! Have a super year!
Hey Alex !
You indeed are a busy man ! It is great that amidst all things, you still have time for the occasional blog. I think its terrific, not only for any of us to read but yet another creative outlet for you as well ! On a side note, I was perusing the trio website the other day and stumbled across some of your video postings. I seen your guys message in a bottle video, and laughed until there were tears in my eyes ! It was great to see the three of you so laid back and having fun. It also reminded me of my freshman year of college. We would be traveling on long road trips and make the same hilarious lip synching, just having fun while passing time videos. Of course ours are not as cool as the skolnick trio's but good times none the less !!
Welcome back and Happy New Year to you too!!!
Glad the TSO tour went well and you are back safe and sound.
I was at two of those show and I can see why you were/are totally exhausted.. And it doesn't seem you will have much time to rest. With Namm, Testament tour, not much time to breathe, but I am sure you wouldn't have it any other way.
Rest up,have a glass of vino and write when you can. Looking forward to it :)
Alex.. I was about to say you've been slacking on this blog =P
TSO was amazing this year.. to say the least. I go every year as a Christmas gift to myself. Makes the holidays worthwhile for me.
Also, Sara IS your biggest fan... and it meant the world to her meeting you.
Looking forward to your future blogs. :)
