Great Metal Quotes

Thought I'd share these two metal quotes I came across. Both are examples of how metal and humor, two once diametrically opposed forces, are finding common ground:

"Yeah. The egg is the metal. And the devil is us - something completely new that the egg didn't even think it was going to become. We're the devil within the egg."

-Holy Grail (young metal band, recently signed)

"Chuck Billy's hands are made for smashing skulls and I’m pretty sure his massive head features jaws that unhinge and can swallow indie rockers, yuppies and other non-thrashers whole. It’s disarming that he’s smiling all the time."

-MP Johnson (independent reviewer)

I read the whole Testament review..

I myself liked Lazarus A.D show/set & thought they sounded great live, Unearth guitarist (buz) is talented,he has nice neo-classical influence and a top-notch shredder ! the band were good but yeah that EMO Vocals ruins the whole thing ! not a fan of Metalcore/deathcore...

I should mention that Unearth and Lazarus AD are sounding great on this tour, regardless of this review.
Also, "Holy Grail" seems to be part of a new movement of bands that are metal and funny at the same time. Dragonforce and Swashbuckle fit this bill well. Great to see bands proving you can be heavy and still have a sense of humor.

BTW Great show in Atlanta.

Alex the link to LA Weekly (Who the hell is holy grail) you posted is not working, I guess they changed it's URL so here's the same post

Swashbuckle/dethklok r awesome ! Swashbuckle kinda remind me of an old -favorite pc game- named (Escape from Monkey Island)...

Dragonforce :( don't you think their music is a sped-up/studio tricks ?

I have to say, I did like Lazarus A.D. on the tour, and personally could have done without Unearth (not my thing musically). I will say that Unearth did a spectacular job of performing, even if you don't like their style. I was also impressed with their professionalism despite the jeers from the crowd (yes, there were some hardcore Testament fans who refused to let the stage be shared). I will definitely have to check out Holy Grail, just as a personal curiousity, since I love Dragonforce. :)

Testament was AMAZING in Atlanta. I was glad that although the set list was close to what was posted online, the artists decided to deviate and mix it up. I think I was one of the (extremely) few women at the show who were there for the show. It was a great environment (I personally LOVE being surrounded by men...haha! especially my hubby) and a great venue, with one of my personal favorite bands. Not a bad way to spend your first metal show! :)

Oh man! hahahaa I love the Chuck Billy quote.

When I met you and him after the show in Detroit, I felt like I was shaking hands with a baseball mit.. and kind of laughed because my hands were so tiny (and frozen at the time lol)

Anyway, I thought all the bands were great of course.

As far as bands with humor... I love it. Reminds me of myself, and I can get a look at how other people react to it before I publish my first album. Since one of the songs, I've been told, is pretty funny.

One more thing, I watch Metalocalypse when I can.. I love it.

Alex,
Read the Testament review.
When I was a child my parents told me to be careful of people that smile all the time. Their up to no good LOL!!! Chuck is a rather large person but he comes across as being a very gentle soul..
Lazuras and Unearth were great at Starland..Although I have never seen or heard either one of them before. I don't remember what band the guitar player was from but imagine my surprise when he got up on the bar walked around it while he was playing .. The bardenter didn't seem too pleased but he sure got the crowd going! What a great way to keep the place rockin!
Testament as always... Awesome show! :)

Metalocalypse/Dethklok, how could I forget. Interestingly, Mike Keneally plays guitar on tour with DethKlok. He's played for Frank Zappa and is one of the most eclectic players I know. My trio toured with his solo project a few years ago, so he's one of the few guys I'll run into in the eclectic improv world and the metal world.
Re: Dragonforce. Saw them live in Montreal last December. Totally amazing, hilarious and no tricks involved.

Alright, I admit it: I don't get the Holy Grail joke. Deviled eggs? I guess they're kind of funny if you don't have to eat 'em. But let's not forget about Stormtroopers of Death. At least I hope they were trying to be funny. Milk!

While I don't enjoy Metal music - I respect it, and the level of musicianship. I find the term 'Metal' a bit funny, but accurate in typecasting the genre -demonstrative,as is Blues, Pop, Jazz etc.
Anyway, I thin, 'HUMOR' is vital to coping -a necessary virtue to have in life (as did Viktor Frankl along w/courage, temperance to cope w/Nazi camps) Anway - carry on metal heads - peace

My comment is not on metal quotes but is about metal greetings. Maybe you, Alex, can explain me why do metal Bands greet their fans in this particular way:
I am a heavy metal fan, but there is a thing or two that I don't understand at all!
Heavy Metal is a heavy, some may even say, violent genre of music. No problem with that. The lyrics may touch the horror side of life. No problem with that, either.
What I don't understand is the kind of greeting, we heavy metal fans, get at heavy metal shows! All sort of greetings ranging from f*** you to mother f******, we get it all! May I just say that I tolerate foul language, but there are limits to that. We go to see our favourite bands and we are greeted in that wierd way. These bands probably appreciate their fans but they could also say some nice words to them. I think!

Metal for music... not for fashion-Chuck Schuldiner from "Death"(1967-2001) I wonder if you know him but he died young. RIP The Godfather of Death Metal!!!
